Airway Disorders and TMD

Anything that prevents you from breathing through your nose can be a direct cause of TMD.  When you are unable to breathe through your nose you become a mouth breather.  Mouth breathing can cause an open anterior bite, an underbite, an overbite or a crossbite which misalign the jaw.  The misaligned jaw can cause an unfavorable relationship of the joint.  This unfavorable positioning can cause a joint dysfunction.
